Anne Frank Biography
Anne Frank was born 12 June 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany. Her father was Otto frank and her mother Edith Frank Hollander. Anne had an older sister called Margot Frank. Margot was very well mannered and reserved. She was also very studios. Anne was more outspoken, energetic, open and confident. Anne was a very good reader and writer at school.
In 1933 Anne’s family moved to Holland because the Nazis had gained control over Germany. In Holland Otto Frank had a good business and they could afford to live comfortably. By 1940 they were trapped in Amsterdam because Germany and Holland had been taken over by the Nazis. Her family were in danger because they were Jewish.
In 1942 the family were forced to go into hiding.
Just before the family went into hiding Anne had her thirteenth birthday. Anne received a book and decided to use it as a diary. This diary became her virtual friend with whom she shared all her secrets.
The family were forced to move into a secret annex on the 6th July 1942. They left their old apartment messy to lead people to believe they had to leave in a rush. They also had to leave Annes cat. Otto Frank left a note saying they were going to Switzerland when they were not. He wanted people to believe they had gone to Switzerland and not try to find them. The family walked a few kilometers with a lot of clothing on. They had to wear everything because they were not allowed to be seen with luggage. They were also not allowed to use public transport. Many Jews were picked up and taken to a concentration camp and some were killed.
The secret annex was above offices in an attic with a small door covered up by a bookcase so it was undiscovered.
Victor Kugler, Johannas Kleman, Miep Gies, Bep Voskuijl and Jan Gies were the only people who knew where they were hiding. The were their only connection with the outside world. they gave them food, kept them safe and kept them updated with the war. If they were found doing this they would have faced the death penalty for keeping Jews safe. For these people to do this constantly it was very hard for them not to get caught.
In the annex the girls read all the school books they had kept from when they were little. They hoped that one day they could return to school. Anne Frank often cried at night because she had lost her friends, school and her freedom. Her diary remained her only friend.
Anne wanted to become a journalist and wrote this in her diary.
“I finally realized that I must do my schoolwork to keep from being ignorant, to get on in life, to become a journalist, because that’s what I want! I know I can write ..., but it remains to be seen whether I really have talent ...
And if I don’t have the talent to write books or newspaper articles, I can always write for myself. But I want to achieve more than that. I can’t imagine living like Mother, Mrs. van Daan and all the women who go about their work and are then forgotten. I need to have something besides a husband and children to devote myself to! ...
I want to be useful or bring enjoyment to all people, even those I’ve never met. I want to go on living even after my death! And that’s why I’m so grateful to God for having given me this gift, which I can use to develop myself and to express all that’s inside me!
When I write I can shake off all my cares. My sorrow disappears, my spirits are revived! But, and that’s a big question, will I ever be able to write something great, will I ever become a journalist or a writer?” August 4 1944 the annex was discovered by the German police the interrogated victor and Johannes. 2 days later taken to the Wester Bork Transit Camp . Were they were considered criminals and were forced to do hard labour. Victor and Johannes were arrested and jailed . Johannes was released after 7 weeks but Victor remained at work camp until the war ended .
Anne Frank wrote :”why do grown ups suquarrel so easily , so much and over the most idiotic things , up till now i thought only children squabbled.
